Dual Credit

  • Before TLHS will sign paperwork for you to register for dual credit, you need to complete this agreement with your parent/guardian and return it to Mrs. Martin.
  • Juniors and Sophomores who plan to take Dual Credit courses next semester, should begin looking online. Registration opens April 1 for fall semesters and November 1 for spring semesters. All dual credit paperwork must be completed at least 2 weeks prior to the end of each semester.
  • It is important to understand that Dual Credit classes require extra organization, self-discipline, and dedication. It also affects your high school and college grade point average (GPA) and eligibility.
  • The requirements students must meet to be eligible for the program, are listed below. There are additional requirements to take English and Math courses.
    1. High school junior eligible to enroll in a high school in South Dakota who meets one of the following requirements:
      1. earn an ACT composite score of 24 reflective of the 70% percentile; or
      2. rank in upper one-third of their graduating class; or

  • Do you have ideas of what you want to do after high school or where you want to continue your education? This can help direct you to what school or dual credit classes might be best for you.
    1. This link also provides majors from each university as well as courses that would be a good fit if you're interested in that major.

  • Some schools offer undergraduate scholarships to students who took dual credit courses through them.
  • There are a couple of routes for dual credit—tech school or the SD Board of Regents (BOR) university system. If you know the school and program you’re interested in you can see what dual credit courses offered meet the requirements of the program. Be aware that not all classes will transfer. For tech schools, those with a T after the course/section number are most likely to.
    1. Courses—You can browse courses on this system, remember to filter it so only online classes are shown.
    2. If you go through a tech school, you will need to register at that school’s website. If you’re going through a university you should be able to register at https://www.sdbor.edu/administrative-offices/academics/ReducedTuitionDualCredit/Pages/default.aspx
    3. When applying to a university, make sure your application says dual credit! If it says undergraduate application, you need to click to change to dual credit.
    4. Those who are currently enrolled in dual credit can do the continuing education application, which shortens the process. If a student takes a spring or fall semester off, they have to go through the initial application process instead of the shortened application.
    5. sdbor.edu (go to student information and then reduced tuition dual credit) has information about the program as well as registration information
