Hello from the Special Education Department!

I am excited to be entering year eight as a staff member within the Timber Lake School District.  I have always believed that every child, when provided with engaging educational opportunities in a positive classroom environment, can and will learn. I also believe that students with disabilities should be educated in the general education setting with their non-disabled peers to the greatest extent possible. The students, teachers, and administrators in our schools are very accepting and inclusive, which is one of the qualities that makes Timber Lake School District so great!

One goal of our special education team is to help students with disabilities understand their personal learning strengths and needs so they can utilize those strengths in the classroom setting and advocate for accommodations, additional instruction, and other supports they need to overcome their disabilities.  We are also working to help students use assistive technology such as text-to-speech and speech-to-text devices that can help them become independent learners.  What some people don’t realize is that many students who qualify for special education and related services under IDEA (the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act) are of average or above average intelligence; they just have unique learning needs.

It's GREAT to be a Timber Lake Panther!
