The Start of a New School Year is Just Around the Corner

Timber Lake School provides a safe environment that empowers students to become critical thinkers and responsible lifelong learners in a changing society.

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!

First, I want to say thank you to our staff, students, parents, and community members! We appreciate the community’s support of our school and their progressive and collaborative efforts as we prepare for our first day of school on August 17, 2022.

Our district has developed a “Stay the Course Plan” which can be viewed on our school website. This is a working document that will continually be enhanced and updated to reflect current guidance from appropriate entities. Input concerning this plan can be provided through scheduled public hearing dates or with communication directly to the superintendent.

This summer has been a busy one for many of our staff members.  I would like to give a special thank-you to the summer maintenance crew for all their hard work in preparation for the coming school year. Our building looks fantastic, and everyone’s efforts in making that happen are greatly appreciated.  In addition, we have been completing several projects including the transition from coal to propane, a complete renovation of our playground and outside basketball courts, updating our fire alarm system, and the construction of a concession stand and restrooms at Doug Kraft Field.

We will officially begin the year with two days of professional development, which will take place on Wednesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 11th.  Professional development opportunities are essential for our continued growth as individual professionals and the school district as a whole.  Our 2022-23 Strategic Professional Development Plan encourages teacher collaboration, action research, and reflection on instruction and curriculum. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 17th

When there are emergency situations or weather-related announcements, we will notify parents by sending a “School Messenger” announcement via phone and text.  We find this system to be very helpful in communicating with parents and guardians.  We will also release these announcements through our local radio stations (KIPI and Dakota Radio Group) as well as through TV media sources.

I encourage you to visit our website at
http://www.timberlakeschool.org/.  There you will be able to access information about teacher lesson plans, our school initiatives, upcoming events, and other pertinent information about the district. Please see our school calendar on the website for activities and events.  As professional educators, we strive to plan, prepare, and engage your children in quality learning activities every day.  Active participation in your child’s education is extremely valuable and I strongly encourage you to visit with your child about what they are learning in school.  Discuss the topics and activities they are studying and use our teacher website to stay abreast of the content your child is engaged in.

I also encourage you to attend as many extracurricular activities this year as you can.  Sportsmanship helps teach our youth that good behavior carries over into other aspects of life. Good sportsmanship is related to honesty, fair play, respect for others, putting forth effort, teamwork, and having fun.  Our students and coaches/advisors work very hard and provide us with wonderful entertainment.

Our staff is committed to providing all students with a quality educational experience.  If you have questions during the year, please do not hesitate to visit with our school staff or district administration.  Thank you for the support you offer to our school district, students, and staff each school year.  I look forward to an outstanding school year and am very proud to lead the Timber Lake School District.  Go Panthers!

Yours in Education,

Dan Martin, Superintendent
